Back in 2002, Kristy McDonough the baker and founder of A Smart Cookie Company began to experiment with baking. Being in her senior year of high school, she frequently sent baked goods to her friends already off to college. Chocolate Chip Cookies seemed to be hit with her friends. She started testing out numerous recipes for chocolate chip cookies, yet not one recipe she found was the perfect cookie. The cookies were too hard, too mushy, or simply lacking the best ingredient- chocolate chips! After some time Kristy simply began to develop her own recipe, which is what you taste today. Full of chocolate chips, soft, golden brown and baked to perfection.

During her college years, Kristy’s cookies became well known to many of her friends, family and colleagues. She was frequently asked bake for special events, holiday presents, parties and even weddings. Soon the idea to sell cookies online was in the back of her mind.

As Kristy went of to graduate school, she began to notice her school loan debt increasing, and the her weekly income ever decreasing. As a way to supplement the cost of schooling and loans, the Smart Cookie Company was born. The creation of this company helped Kristy pay for books, art supplies, printing and private school tuition!

Today Kristy is happy to have finally joined the working world after graduating with a master’s degree in 2008. She continues to enjoy keeping her company going strong and baking the best cookies ever!
